Do you ever feel like you just don’t have enough faith? Or that your faith doesn’t work? Or maybe you haven’t given much thought to faith at all. Well, if you have received Jesus as your Savior then you have been given a measure of faith. It is not your standard, run of the mill, common sense faith…it is the faith of God! It is the same faith that was used to create the heavens and the earth. It is the same faith that Jesus used when he was on the earth to heal the sick, feed the multitudes and raise the dead. It seems hard to imagine, but it is true.
In Mark 11, Jesus tells us that we can have God’s faith. He and his disciples were on their way to Jerusalem. Jesus saw a fig tree and went over to it to get something to eat. When he got there, he realized there was no fruit on the tree – even though from a distance it looked as if it should have fruit. At this point, Jesus said to the tree “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” (Mark 11:14)
They proceeded on their way to Jerusalem, spent the day there in the temple and returned home that evening. When they were going home, no one said anything about the tree, but the next morning on their way back to Jerusalem, Peter noticed that the tree had dried up from the roots.
When he brought this to Jesus’ attention, Jesus said “Have faith in God.” The reference in my study bible says literally, “Have the faith of God.” Now, Jesus would not command us to do something, or have something, if it were not possible.
Romans 12:3 tells us that we have been given faith: “For I say, thru the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think: but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”
We have not only been given faith, we have been given the same faith that God has.
We having the same spirit of faith according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak. 2 Corinthians 4:13
Wow. That is big. It is almost too big to believe. But if God’s word says it…I’m going to believe it.
When do we get this faith of God? When we are born again!
For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
Faith is given to us when we hear and believe the word of God.
So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
That is how we are born again. We hear the word of God, either through a person or by reading it ourselves in the Bible. We believe the word and we act on it by accepting Jesus as our Savior. This is the first act of faith on our part and it is when we are dealt the measure of faith.
Allow your mind to accept that you CAN and DO have the same faith that God has. Say to yourself, “I have the faith of God.” over and over until it becomes real. This is how to renew your mind to the Word of God. This is how faith works.
- See it in the Word
- Believe it in your heart (inner man, spirit)
- Say it out of your mouth.
Every born again believer has been given the faith of God. It is a gift from God. Once we have been given the measure of faith, it is up to us what we do with it. We can feed it and make it grow, or we can ignore it and allow it to dry up. It’s up to you.
You have been given a measure of God’s faith! It is in you now. What are you going to do with it?
